Urban Typology Study

Singapore

“Shophouses are a vernacular housing typology common in Southeast Asia. Typically organized in rows of facades facing the main street, the ground floor is open to a covered arcade known as the “five footway”. This study looks at the typology and its potential for improvement.”

Vietnam

“Nyugen Bùi Viện or the Backpacker Street is named after the prominent Vietnamese reformer. It is the main street of the backpacker area of Ho Chi Ming City consisting of a wide variety of inexpensive restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, and hotels/hostels. Activity on the street changes drastically from day to night. This study tries to understand this unique urban phenomenon.”
